I've read this book, and recommend it. I noticed the author described the style for portion of the book resembled juvenile perspective. I thought that these portions of the book were more zen-like than juvenile. It's interesting to travel to where these plantation villages were located (the book gives maps of their location). Now all that's visible are sugar cane fields!
