Courtland Lee, is a Professor in the College of Education, University of Maryland. He earned a Bachelor's degree in history and secondary education from Hofstra University, and a Master's degree in guidance and counseling from Hunter College of the City University of New York. He received his doctorate in counseling from Michigan State University. His area of specialization is multicultural counseling. Dr. Lee worked as a teacher, school counselor, and substance abuse counselor prior to receiving his doctorate degree. After receiving his doctorate degree he was a professor and Chairperson of the Counseling Psychology program at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Courtland is a Nationally Certified Counselor. He has served the counseling profession in numerous capacities including most recently as President of the American Counseling Association, past President of the Association for Multicultural Counseling and Development, and past President of Chi Sigma Iota International Counseling Academic and Professional Honor Society. He is a also on the Executive Council of the International Round Table for the Advancement of Counseling, and a Charter Member of the CSI Academy of Leaders. He has written numerous publications on the topic of multicultural counseling including the books, Multicultural Issues in Counseling: New Approaches to Diversity, Saving the Native Son: Empowerment Strategies for Young Black Males, and Counseling for Diversity: A Guide for School Counselors and Related Professionals. He has made numerous professional presentations at the state, regional, national and international levels. He enjoys reading, travel, theater, and he is an avid Washington Redskins fan.
