Replay of Interview... -The Diary of Black Men show cast

Tonight we meet the show cast for the very popular stage show 'The Diary of Black Men- How do you love a Black Woman.

Russell Andrews (Director)

 Russell’s journey with The Diary of Black Men began in 1986 when after two very well-received performances, at Houston’s Ensemble Theatre, an opportunity came to cover a character in The Diary at Philadelphia’s Walnut Street Theatre. After that single performance Mr. Andrews was asked to be the sole understudy for all 6 male characters as well as the assistant to the director and technical staff.     With The Diary’s phenomenal success,

Russell spent the next two years covering all of the 6 roles, while continuing to drive “the van” across the country several times, ironing the costumes, moving the props and carrying the luggage for the cast. The opportunity to take a permanent role in the play came at the famed Town Hall Theatre in New York City where, while keeping his position as technical assistant, he took over the role of  ‘The Intellectual’ and never looked back.
