Stand for Something or Fall for Anything!

Did you know that America has the highest incarceration rate in the world, surpassing even Russia, Cuba, Rwanda, among others?  We incarcerate more people per capita than any other nation in the world, not because it has higher crime rates, but because it imprisons more types of criminal offenders, including non-violent and drug offenders and keeps them in prison longer.

The social injustice of mass incarceration has had a devastating effect on African Americans and Hispanics in the US.  African Americans are six times more likely to be incarcerated than a white person and non-white Latinos are almost three times more likely to be incarcerated, according to the Pew Center on the States. What is the devastating impact on our families, education, economics, racial equality, etc.  How can we stand up and together against this kind of atrocity?

Join us as we answer these and other questions in a forum discussion with individuals who are on the front line advocating for prison reform, re-entry programs, social justice and community activism.

Our guests include: Mary L. Washington, MSW, Th.M., Th.D.- Queens, NY; Joe Smith, President and Founder of Struggcon, Inc., Radio Host and Activist; Malik Brooks, Author of "Convicted at Birth", Speaker and Workshop Facilitator; Thomas "Arocks" Porter, Social Justice Advocate, Consultant and Mentor for Harlem Commonwealth Council's Arches and Activist.
