Oklahoma (Okla Humma - Chahta) word for Red People. Previously, it was referred to as "Indian Territory", it was home to the caddo's, Wichita's and Waco's. before it became a dumping ground, land of exile or a mass concentration camp for Native people who were in the way of the european immigrants. Now it home to more than 33 federally recognized tribes, or what I call First Nations.
In 2014, we have saw acts of racism steming from willful ignorance or deliberate intent to ridicule and dehumanize Native peoples as distinctly unique in their culture, language and spiritual traditions. In recent years, the state actively fought against established treaties and abolished the Oklahoma Indian Affairs Commission after a 43 year history in 2011.
The Red Earth Festival was a replacement for the loss of the National Finals Rodeo after it had left for Las Vegas, in the following years the face of greed continued to grow until now it is nothing but a moneymaking event prostituting the culture of Native peoples.
This show will bring you the truth from those who have lived here and have fought against racism, stereotypes and ignorance. Some things here have never changed. Special guests will be added as we draw close to the show so stay tuned and share this program!
