The Empowerment Hour Online University this Week We are honored to be joined by Dr. James "Jim" Loewen, Sociologist of international renown. Dr. Loewen taught at Tougaloo College during the high point of the Civil Rights Movement in Mississippi. His co-authorship of the book Mississippi: Conflict and Change challenged the biased notions of Black people's role and status in Southern history. This book won the Lillian Smith Award for Best Southern Nonfiction in 1975, but was not approved by the Mississippi Textbook Purchasing Board. His other books include "Lies my Teacher Told Me," "Sundown Towns: A Hidden Dimension of American Racism," and Lies Across America: What Our Historic Sites Get Wrong. We welcome Dr. Loewen to the program this week.
