It's so refreshing to get information that is current and based on good medical science instead of the "we've always done it this way" one-size-fits-all approach most women receive. Thanks Dr. Vliet for explaining how hormone imbalances affect so many aspects of women's health.

Dear Dr. Vliet, I've heard an allergy to progesterone can cause weight gain. Is there such a thing and if so, does it worsen weight gain?) Thank you! Mary, Seattle, Wa. Yes, it's "autoimmune progesterone induced dermatitis" (Google the term for medical articles about it). Weight gain can occur with progesterone even without an "allergy" - it's a normal effect of the hormone. See my book "Women, Weight and Hormones" and BTR show 1-7-08. Hope that helps. Dr. Vliet
