Training for Warfare  % 6

That keys signify power is evident from the passages in the Word where keys are mentioned; as in the following passages:-

  1. “I am the first and the last; He that liveth, and was dead; but behold I am alive unto ages of ages; and Icand of death,” (Rev. 1:18).
  2. “These things saith He that is holy, He that is true, He that hath the key of David, He that openeth, and no man shutteth, and He that shutteth, and no man openeth,” (Rev. 3:7).
  3. “The key of the house of David will I lay upon His shoulder; that He may open and none shut, and that He may shut and none open,” (Isa. 22:22).

That in these passages a key denotes power, is manifest; also that the power belongs to the Lord alone.

  1. “And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power: In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ: buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead. And you, being dead in your sins and the un circumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses; blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross; and having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it,” (Col. 2:10-15).
