Famine and aridity allied with military threat to take hope away from God's people, but they made no link between their circumstances and their faithfulness to God and His prospects. Joel termed Judah to repent in face of God judgment using external attacker. He selected God's future day of redemption in which He would give His people His Spirit.

As we are reading the Book of Joel, what circumstances in your world reflects God’s activities? Do you or the people in your sphere of influence give up hope in God? Is the Holly Spirit currently working in your life and the people you spend most of your time with? Are you satisfied with where you are spiritually? Do you want the Holy Spirit to change your life and help you experience God in such a way you have never before? Joel is calling us to repent so we could receive the Spirit of God and experience the full scope of God’s love, grace and mercy. Repentance required that we acknowledge our guilt and culpabilities to God; It leads us to God sovereignty, be more “Christo-Centric, Theo-centric and less self-center. Experience God and the power of the Holy Spirit in Joel.
