Holding the rank of Black Belt in multiple systems ???

Greetings & welcome to “Making the Connection Martial Arts Radio Talk Show”.

I recently was asked by another martial arts instructor about Black Belt  students keeping the rank of Black Belt when learning a new system. All of us compete against one another in the tournament scene as Black Belts. So the question in mind is it acceptable to keep your Black Belt status / rank when learning a new martial arts system?  What are your thoughts?
