In some relationships, kindness is easy. When we feel valued by our friends, it is easy to return the favor. But what about difficult relationships? Sometimes you may have to stand up for a friend at the risk of your own reputation. You may have to make the effort to keep in touch with someone at school who is a loner. You may have to take the initial step to start a relationship with an outcast. The burden is on you. How will you respond when love is costly? We know how God responded. His love for people was very costly, but He was ready to pay the price. Do you love the people around you with that kind of self-sacrificing love, or are you only in relationships for what you can receive?
