Came to the US as a Graduate Student in 1999 from Kenya and later started working under H1B status.

Got married to American transportation engineer, Glenn Standifer in October 2003.

Glenn died of a heart attack Dec 2004; We had filed the adjustment of status paperwork.

Learned from my lawyer that the adjustment of status application was voided under the Widow Penalty; This is a double tragedy, the loss of a spouse and the punishment by the government.

Continued in H1B status.

Learned of Brent Renison's fight in the circuit courts in the US and in Washington DC.

Traveled to Washington DC twice with the group, SSAD, in 2006 and in 2008 with others to lobby senators to change the law. We spent all day going from one senator's office to another talking about our cause. Tough.

2009 Victories; Win in the House of Representatives and in the Senate and Obama signed the law in October.  Unfortunately with only a 2 year window ending Oct 2011.  The fight continues to change the law completely.

What do I do? I'm a full time realtor and a part-time accountant in Philadelphia, PA.
