Please join Joy Randel as she chats with Terri Holzner. Terri will talk about Leashes for Living Assistance Dog School, LLC and her personal experience of living with her assistance dog.

Their unique program teaches persons with disabilities how to train their own service dog & assist individuals that want to train their own therapy dog so they can visit the ill & disabled. The school also offers programs for pet dog owners so they can train & enjoy their furry friends.

Classroom instruction along with field trips, provide the technical & practical knowledge for the dog owner to train their dog. The dog can be a puppy, adolescent or adult.  Unfortunately, not all dogs are cut out to be working dogs.

Once the team is established training begins, goals are set, & the team works towards various achievement levels which include, but are not limited to:

  • AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy
  • AKC Canine Good Citizen (CGC)
  • Public Access Test
  • 7 Levels of Obedience & Manners

Advancing to:

  • Service Dog Special Skill Awards
  • Therapy Dog Special Trick Training

After graduation this approach to training enables persons with disabilities to continue training their service dogs to perform new tasks as the persons needs change.  Therapy dog graduates will be able to teach their dog new tricks to help with their therapy work and Pet dog owners have a well- mannered dog.
