Please join Joy Randel as she chats with Dr. Matia Finn-Stevenson, Yale Research Scientist and Director of the Yale University’s School of the 21st Century. Matia, along with North Shore Animal League America and the Cesar Millan Foundation, created the Mutt-i-grees Curriculum.
The Mutt-i-grees® Curriculum is a new, innovative program that builds on children’s affinity for animals and highlights the unique characteristics and desirability of Mutt-i-grees®, or shelter dogs. The Curriculum teaches social and emotional skills and is unique in its bridging of humane education and the emerging field of Social and Emotional Learning (SEL). In a series of easily implemented lessons, children learn critical skills that will help them in school, at home, and later on in the workplace and in their interactions with people and, of course, with animals. Integrated throughout the Curriculum are feature lessons on dog behavior developed with Cesar Millan.
The Mutt-i-grees Curriculum was developed by The Pet Savers Foundation, in collaboration with the Yale University School of the 21st Century, and was graciously funded by The Millan Foundation. It is currently in over 900 schools in 28 states. Click Here for more information.
Dazzle Dog Delight is a program that will focus on the myriad ways dogs contribute to the lives of women and children. In her six years as a Therapy Pet Volunteer in skilled nursing facilities, Joy saw first-hand how the presence of a dog can not only lift the suffering of a person in need, but often improve her health as well. Dogs often play a very special role in women’s lives when it comes to relationships – and Joy herself is no exception to this rule. When she was single and dating, Joy’s one deal-breaker was a gentleman not liking her dog, and vice versa. The man that would eventually become Joy’s husband (9 years and counting!) hit it off with her dog right away.
Joy hopes to use Dazzle Dog Delight as a forum for discussing how we can utilize the sacred dog/human relationship to empower and enrich women. Dogs are special, complicated creatures with amazing instincts and awareness when it comes to assessing human beings, and this can be a powerful tool for their female masters. Of course, we will also enjoy light-hearted conversations about the way our pooch pals make us laugh and keep our lives buoyant (even while driving us crazy). In addition we will explore how, quite often, our dogs can be much-needed confidants and provide a (snuggly furry) shoulder to lean on.
We hear a lot of talk about dogs being “man’s best friend,” well, here on Dazzle Dog Delight, Joy hopes to get the word out that letting her life go to the dogs is often the best decision a woman will ever make!
