Progressive Democrat Senators Elizabeth Warren (MA) and Ron Wyden (OR) are leading a coalition of 68 Democrats and one Republican that has openly come out against the President’s total lack of transparency on the Trans-Pacific Partnership, more commonly referred to as the TPP. The American people, and even members of Congress are being denied access to the contents of this massive, 29 chapter agreement; yet 600 representatives from corporations such as Halliburton, Monsanto, Chevron, and Wal-Mart are helping to write and negotiate it.

In an open letter written to the President, Senator Warren said, “I have heard the argument that transparency would undermine the Administration's policy to complete the trade agreement because public opposition would be significant. This argument is exactly backwards. If transparency would lead to widespread public opposition to a trade agreement, then that trade agreement should not be the policy of the United States. I believe in transparency and democracy, and I think the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) should too."

Tonight we will take an in-depth look at these corageous leaders cry for transparency, and discuss the many issues that experts have with the contents of this 29 chapter assault on democracy.
