I believe that Jesus knew that the scribes from Jerusalem that claimed he cast out devils because he followed the Prince of devils felt the witness of the Holy Ghost about what he was doing. This would explain his instruction and parables regarding a house divided and they who blaspheme against the Holy Ghost.
We want to be careful and know who the Holy Ghost is so that we do not run the risk of that sin.
