Six short and powerful scriptures in this chapter 14 of 2 Nephi.
The metaphors and wording can be tricky to understand but perhaps that is why we have not lost their meaning and for those who are willing to give ear to them they can deliver great peace and comfort. As with so many of Isaiah's writings, these are of events that have already occurred and of events yet to occur as well as events that are with each of us in our daily lives and can be taken very personally.
The promises here of cleansing and purging are exquisite and reflective of what happens in the time of baptism and the process we go through as we allow the Holy Ghost to put us through the refiner's fire.
As we become more refined we are literally and figuratively protected and sheltered from a lot of the of the trauma of the war that continues to rage among the children of men here on the earth that we were engaged in. I have a personal testimony of this in the sense that I can bear things that I never dreamed I could and I know it is the Lord, God's love, and the Holy Ghost that help me be able to do so.
