I love the scriptures!! I love reading the scriptures with you!! Review: Abraham is told to offer up his only son, Isaac, as a burnt offering to God. Three days they travelled and then he took his son yet further and built an alter. His son strong and full of youth did not have to allow himself to be tied up, yet he did. I talked about how God would not ask this exact thing of anyone today because the ultimate offering has been given in Jesus Christ. When we wish to follow the will of God we want to consider all of the scriptures, latter day council, common sense and, of course, the whisperings of the Spirit. We as people can get fixated on one story alone or one thought or verse and be led into temptation by the adversary to do great wrongs. It is important that we are mindful of this. We read how Abraham was stopped by the voice of an angel and the ram provided. Of interest is the name he gave of the place, Jehova-jireh or "the Lord will provide" (see footnotes in the scriptures). Over 1500 years before Christ is upon the earth his name, Jehovah, and purpose are known to Abraham. Likewise we today over 1500 years after Christ's coming know the plan and purpose of the Son of God. Faith on Christ's name is significant to each of us. In Matthew Christ spoke of the unforgivable sin of blasphemy against the Holy Ghost. To destroy that which guides us and testifies of Christ "shall not be forgiven". This chapter appears to be speaking of the special witness that man can receive in his heart for it continues with caution on our use of words. Vs 37 reads "For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned." This makes me shudder and gives me reason to pause at my words and consider if they are "bringing forth good things" vs 35. I want to know God's will in my life and I wish to do it. The scriptures testify of Christ and this path. May I follow them as he directs. In Jesus name.
