DFS White Paper:  Trends in Youth Residential Treatment 1999 – 2012
Best practices relating to placing children in residential care

Steve Corsi, Psy. D., Director, Wyoming Department of Family Services (DFS), and Dr. Marty Nelson, DFS Clinical Services Division Administrator,  will present “Trends in Youth Residential Treatment 1999-2012” on the March 14, 2013 Children’s Justice Project Permanency Series on BlogTalkRadio

Director Corsi and Dr. Nelson will discuss research relating the length of stay in residential care to positive outcomes for youth who are placed in residential treatment centers (RTCs).  Their presentation will cover additional best practices in residential care including high levels of family participation and a strong focus upon discharge planning with an emphasis on community supports.

This research and the fact that Wyoming ties with Colorado for placing the highest percentage of its children/youth in residential treatment has led the Department to begin taking steps toward improving RTC outcomes and building community supports.  Director Corsi will review these plans and answer questions and hear comments from those who participate in the session.
