Powerful Asante Women Today

My moment and visit with Nana Yaa Asantewaa II, the Queen Mother of Edweso, the great, great, great grand daughter of Nana Yaa Asantewaa. The current Queen-mother of Ejisu is Yaa Asantewaa II. Nana Yaa Asantewaa II calls on all to help to preserve the nation’s rich culture and traditions. She draws attention to the need for parents to pay more attention to the education of their children to enable them to grow into responsible adults, adequately prepared to lead the nation into prosperity.

Nana Afua Tabiri is head of the Koforidua shrine. My visit with Nana Afua Tabiri, as her guest, observed her sitting in state receiving visitors who benefited from the good works of the shrine. Other traditional priests from sat amidst drumming and dancing. When as a young girl, Afua Tabiri was taken by an ancient man.  He held her for many years teaching her traditional rituals and rites. When she returned to Koforidua she took her seat, on the stool, as the Chief Priestess.  Pictures are posted of Nana Asantewaa II and Nana Afua Tabiri and myself.
