2 Samuel 11:1–5

Unless you are living in a cave you've probably heard about this year's hack of the Ashley Madison website where subscriber profiles were released by the hackers.  Now their tag line is: Life is short. Have an affair.

This web site isn't the problem rather it is a reflection of our culture.  And the story of David’s adulterous sin with Bathsheba serves as an excellent example for this message on the consequences of the grievous sin of adultery or any sin for that matter.

So...

Can a child of God sin? Yes.
Can a child of God sin and not suffer? No.

Well just look at King David, the Bible calls him, “…a man after His own heart…” (1 Samuel 13:14).

He was a poet, a singer, a mighty warrior, and one of the greatest men who ever lived and when I think of David, first I think of his bravery.

Remember before he slew Goliath he killed a lion, and a bear, and he did all of this while still in his youth! Now we all know those stories and we love David’s bravery.

Plus we know he was very humble, because after he had been appointed and anointed to be the king of Israel, he went back to tending sheep!  Now that's humility!

David was the man among men, above most every other man, he was an incredible individual, yet he fell into a deep, dark, hateful, heinous sin and our focus scripture tells us about it.

Hence there was a big scar from the sin of adultery on the life of King David.

So tune in to learn about The Cause of Sin, The Cost of Sin and The Challenges to Sin, something all of us must wrestle with when we name the name of Jesus as our LORD and Savior.
