In Genesis 16 Sarai suggested to Abram that he should go into her handmaid, Hagar, in order to conceive a child which represented a deviation from God's promise.  Abram conceded and slept with Hagar, wherein a child was conceived.  Hagar bore a son, Ishmael.  God ordained Abram as the "father of a great nation".  Consequently, God possessed Abram with the authority and the fore-knowledge to execute what God promised.  Sarai as a perceived helpmate to Abram, deviates from the promised method of fulfillmen,t by requesting that Hagar replace her as the vessel of fulfillment. In Chapter 15:4 God tells Abram that "This one shall not be your heir, but one who will come form your own body shall be your heir".   It was Abram's responsibility to adhere to the instructions God gave him and deny Sarai's request.  As it was with Adam with Eve, Abram broke communion with God by obeying the desires of the woman rather than standing with God.   Such a break caused jealousy, wrath, disruption and an everlasting judgment.  A woman has to SIR-vive the choices of her husband when divine consequences flow from his disobedience.
