Jeff Schmitt, PhD - Folk Healer, Tabaquero, Ceremonialist & Scientist - enjoys a rich life filled with community, science, music, art, and family.  A walker-between-worlds, Jeff is an enthusiastic advocate for indigenous healing and wisdom traditions.  As both a noted scientist and practitioner of Peruvian Folk medicine, he seeks to build bridges of understanding.  Jeff is a challenging and evocative speaker/storyteller; in 2011 he presented the first TEDx talk on Ayahuasca - inspired by his life-changing sojourn with the Secoya people of the Nortthern Amazon rainforest.

Jeff chairs the Heart of the Healer Foundation Board of Directors and is adjunct Professor of Biochemistry, Physiology & Pharmacology, and former Research Director at the Center for Integrative Medicine at Wake Forest University School of Medicine.

As a 32-year veteran scientist/entrepreneur with more than 100 publications and patents to his name.  He has participated in raising morethan $100 million toward research and innovation to improve human health.  Jeff played a key role in the launch of 4 companies and a research Institute (The Bent Creek Institute of the University of North Carolina).  As founder of the Wake Forest University School of Medicine Innovation and Entrepreneurship Initiative, he has helped innovators leverage numerous new technologies into the marketplace.  Jeff also enthusiastically works with nonprofits to increase effectiveness and organizational capacity.
