In the game of Chess, the goal is to corner your opponent and put them in a position that they are captured and cannot move. In affect they lose their independence on the board. For far too many people, they feel captured by life in general. All the moves they know seem to fall short of victory on the board of life. The latter explains the contention that “the system is rigged against me” – therefore, I am justified in not striving to win.
