The Role of Woman in the Bible and in the Church today.

What does the Bible say about the role of women in the Church? Are they to be silent while in the Church or do they play an important role of spreading the gospel? What significant roles if any did women play in the Bible? In recent years the role of women has been downplayed by religious men. Many religions and denominations agree that there is no place of authority within the church for women. Although there are many who would not admit to this thought, they stand whole heartedly behind this principle. Is this sexism, a misinterpretation of the scriptures, or a combination of both?
