Before we can make room for the good things that comprise a thriving life, we must say no to the things that keep us from walking in health and wholeness.  Saying no to living in secrecy and silence out of shame over our abuse, no to keeping the status quo and allowing addictions and detrimental thought patterns to have free reign, no to being controlled by fear, self protection, control, and isolation.

Guest Duane Katene will be sharing his journey of healing as chronicled in his book, Neon Signs.  In this book the main character 'Damian King' is based on Duane’s life as a sexual abuse survivor. Through a series of journal entries, poetry and short stories, the reader discovers what sexual abuse is and what it feels like to have gone through sexual abuse.

Duane Katene is 35 years old and happily married to his wife Jodie. He has three daughters - Armarna, 7, Grace, 5 and Arden 2. He was born in New Zealand and moved to the Gold Coast in the state of Queensland, Australia when he was 8. He has a Bachelor of Psychology and a Graduate Certificate in Arts/Media, and currently works as a Foster Care Case Worker.  Duane’s ambition is to write full time and to increase awareness and understanding of sexual abuse.
