October 16th marks the 24th anniversary of the Million Man March. As Black men from all over the United States converged on Washington D.C. there was an air of camraderie, of self-awareness and self-appreciation. The march also set out to draw the attention of politicians to the plight of the African American male in this country in an attempt to "flip the paradigm" if you will. Were they successful? I'm sure the Honorable Elijah Muhammad and Benjamin Chavis Jr. didn't go to all that trouble to have their efforts and designs fall on deaf ears. They meant for Black men to learn and grow, and to teach the lessons they were taught. To stop killing one another, to build, not destry their communities and to be aware of what they SHOULD be as Black men vs what society PORTRAYED them as. Things like the O.J. verdict and Rodney King were still kind of fresh in our heads. And of course there was good ol Bill Clinton! Have the lessons learned at the Million Man March permeated Black Society or are we still struggling NOT to repeat past mistakes? Join me this weekend when my show will feature Personal Srategy Coach Jamon Morgan and Activist, agent of change and Million Man March attendee, Kokayi Nosakhere. Its gonna be a live one, realists. I suggest you tune in. 12 noon Alaska time. PEACE.
