In the doom and gloom that prevaded throughout the United States' Navy in the immediate aftermath of the dastardly sneak attack on U.S. naval and air installations at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii on December 7 1941, the U.S. Navy had precious few ships left to stand against the relentless enemy onslaught. Piercing through this dark cloud was the indomitable Aircraft Carrier, USS YORKTOWN. She was a fighting lady. Big, beautiful, proud and strong, the USS YORKTOWN stood fast against the Japanese juggernaut. The nerve and skill of her aircrews and anti-aircraft gunners inflicted grievious losses upon the Empire of Japan culminating in their cataclysmic defeat at the Battle of Midway. Her exploits made her a legend. And her legacy is forever secure in the annals of maritime history. This, and following broadcasts will detail her life and amazing career.
