Mr. Palmer holds over three decades under his belt on lecturing and writing about hermeneutics, which is the theory of understanding and interpretation. His first book on that subject was written in 1969, and has actually become a standard text and is available in six languages.

He studied in Heidelberg, Germany, under Hans-Georg Gadamer, a German philosopher best known for his 1960 magnum opus, for his postdoctoral four year study that spanned into four decades. In the 1990’s, he received two Fulbright Research Grants, which helped with his publications of numerous articles and book translations. One of his writings includes, “Why Gadamer’s Hermeneutical Philosophy is Alive and Important Today”, which is the English version translated from the original Chinese version he wrote called, “The Taipei Lectures”.

Richard retired in 1999, to fully dedicate his time to write and translate on the works of Hans-Georg Gadamer.
