Well, since I said NIGGA, I guess everybody else did too while I was gone! This word and many others were designed to separate us and that what it is good at doing, if you don’t know who you are. Words are containers for power; they have the power you give them. So this week on my return, we will discuss words and activities that will begin to bring us together. Sometimes I think our Black President was just the distraction we needed to take our minds off the REAL. We as a people, Black, White, American or otherwise need to understand this and do and say things that bring us closer. To kick off the “Don’t be a NIGGA” series we will begin our in dept discussion on PBS’s “African’s In America, - America’s Journey Through Slavery”. This is a four part series and I will attempt to tackle one part each week. As I said before, there would be no America, if there was no slavery. This is our history! We must embrace it and understand it from both sides. America will never heal if we as American’s continue to disregard our historical past. “Those who fail to know their history are doomed to repeat it”, I’m certain everyone has heard that before. I feel Blacks don’t know and therefore do not embrace our past! Learning about our roots and how we got to the place we are today will only help us to heal the wounds left from the past, and there are many. There are many forces out there in this country that are trying to divide us, Black and White. I want to be known as the next great Black Leader who refused to join in on the bullshit and stuck her neck out to make a difference. Peace to all my people! Please join in and I did download some new musical licks just for you.
