This is I.T. (Inconvenient Truth)!!- 13 Reason - How to fight

There are many ways to talk about suicide prevention or just the idea of suicidal thoughts. There is an uproar over the book called "13 Reason," which talks about suicide and teens. I have not personally read the book but I will wrongfully assume the author's point was to start a discussion with teens about their feelings and suicide.  No one wants to truly talk about suicide because it is taboo.

I've watched the series on Netflix with my daughter and it was truly interesting how the young lady showed every sign of possible suicide and no one noticed. She even went to the principle at her school and talked about how she had been raped and was struggling with how to handle the situation. Instead of him taking action he simply asked her should he call her parents and of course she said no. He let the conversation go and did search deeper into her feelings. She killed herself that same day!

Often the signs of possible suicide or even suicidal thoughts are prevalent people don't take the time to listen or evaluate the situation. I've been researching suicide for a few months now and the first step is recognizing the signs. Depression, helplessness, change in eating patterns and mood swings just to name a few. While the awareness is increasing, I don't believe it's being placed at the highest level of concerns in our youths.

Suicide in many cases is a treatable mental illness and can often be prevented if others would simply slow down and pay closer attention when you notice the slightest change in one’s behavioral pattern.
