Join us as we talk with Sista JayVon Muhammad as we discussed Black girls and women as it relates to marriage, pregnancy and life.

Who is Jayvon Muhammad:

For over a decade, as a midwife, I have been committed to the work of eliminating disparities in pregnancy outcomes for poor women and women of color. That commitment has rewarded me with an opportunity to serve as the Chief Executive Officer of Marin City Health and Wellness Center, a federally qualified health center in Marin City California.

I am also the founder and Executive Director of Urban Midwifery, a 501c3 nonprofit agency committed to ensuring all women have access to midwifery care. I believe that their are no healthy babies without first healthy mamas, and as a result I am committed to strengthening women, families and communities.

I am passionate about the rebuilding of black families and communities, and I believe that the poor pregnancy outcomes in the black community are closely related to the sad fact that more than 70% of our babies are born outside of wedlock As a result I created and implement two educational programs with the purpose of educating black communities about the importance of marriage in pregnancy and community building, The Campaign Against the Normalization of the Baby Mama and Black Fathers Stepping Up.
