District of Columbia Council Chairman Vincent Gray will be featured this week on the American Federation of Government Employees’ (AFGE) “Inside Government” radio show. The show will air on Friday, April 23 at 10 a.m. ET nationwide on Federal News Radio at www.federalnewsradio.com and 1500 AM in the Washington, D.C., area. Gray, who recently announced his candidacy for D.C. mayor, will discuss juvenile violence, educational improvements, and his thoughts on labor/management relations. Gray also will shed light on reports of a $34 million D.C. Public Schools budget surplus that was discovered only after hundreds of teachers lost their jobs. AFGE National Secretary-Treasurer J. David Cox, 8th District National Vice President Jane Nygaard, and Legislative Representative Marilyn Park then will discuss the fight to obtain equal bargaining rights for all Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) employees. AFGE supports H.R. 949, which would provide full collective bargaining rights for physicians, dentists, registered nurses and other VA health care professionals covered by the Title 38 personnel system. Cox, Nygaard, and Park also will preview National Nurses Week May 6 – 12.
