    in Health

https://www.remstonetherapy.com SAVE a Massage Therapist's thumbs and wrists TODAY! RemStone Therapy® is a trademarked massage modality that assists massage therapists gain more efficient results, prevents their own potential injury and extends their longevity in the industry. Developed in Australia, RemStone Therapy is a unique manual therapy offering a less invasive and a more efficient treatment for muscle congestion, pain and discomfort. My Story... Have you ever wondered how Massage Therapists survive when they use their hands day in day out? With over 20 years in the Massage Industry, I have found that when Massage Therapist's put their customers first, all too often they sacrifice their own health and wellbeing. Research has found that 80% of Massage Therapists will have a work-related injury in the first 2 years after graduating. Scary statistics! Picture this: it was 2004 in a busy summer massage clinic, full books, 10 Therapists working, and a long waitlist. One morning, on the busiest day ever, the head therapist, and owner of the clinic wakes up with a painful sprained wrist... That was me. And it didn't stop there. Pain went from my wrist up to my elbow, shoulder and all the way up my neck. I had to face my therapists and clinic wearing a neck brace, not a good look! And you know what? I'm not sure what hurt more, my physical pain or the fact that I was looking down the barrel of the end of my massage career... So I knew I had to do something to stay in the world I loved.

    What healthy means to me

    in Health

What Does Health mean to you?
What does being healthy mean to you? I know in my life the word health has evolved many times. Every year it grows in depth and importance. When you Google the definition of Health the top 5 results will all give you a vague definition. They all come back saying basically the opposite of illness and free from disease. Now in a straightforward world we could take that as a valid answer but in the world, we live in it's not an answer at all for someone really trying to figure out what it means to be healthy. We can't even agree on what illness means anymore so how do we agree on what health means?  With mixed messages bombarding us from every angle how do you know who to believe when they speak about what to do to achieve health? How do you figure out what health means for you?
hope that you decide to take the time to listen in every week to hear more about the many definitions of health.  I will be talking with experts who understand that health does not have a one size fits all solution.  My only goal is to help you realize that your health, all of your health is important and worth the effort.  We all know people who were taken far too soon unexpectedly. So, let's make the commitment to ourselves that we will do what we can to make sure that we stay on this earth long enough to make a difference for those who we love. That we leave this world a little better than the way it was when we were brought into. How do we make the world better, you ask? One person at a time, and the first person is yourself.
    Carpe Diem my friends!!

    Mermaid Parade

    in Health

Tune in to Divabetic's podcast on the 42nd Annual Mermaid Parade with our guests, Coney Island USA's Artistic Director Adam Rinn and Poet Lorraine Brooks.
The Mermaid Parade is the nation's largest art parade. It brings together creative minds in art and fashion and attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors to Brooklyn's amusement district. The Parade originated to help preserve the tradition of Mardi Gras-type events popular in Coney Island between 1903 and 1954.
This year, painter, performer, and sideshow historian Joe Coleman will be King Neptune, and his wife, artist, and photographer Whitney Ward will be Queen Mermaid. The couple will officially open the beaches for the beginning of summer and celebrate the sun, sand, sea, and salt air.
Adam Rinn, Coney Island USA's Artistic Director, is a Coney Island native who has worked as a sword swallower, strongman, and variety performer for the past 20 years, so you're sure to enjoy this fun and colorful interview!
Poet Lorraine Brooks revisits her groundbreaking poem "Beauty & The Beach," which premiered over thirteen years ago on Divabetic's Roundtable podcast. "Beauty & The Beach" resonates deeply with podcast listeners and Diabetic blog readers. Since then, we have reshared Lorraine's poem on body love, swimwear, and beaches on subsequent podcasts and blog entries.
Lorraine shares how her opinions about her body and wearing a swimsuit have changed over the past decade, but her feelings about her diabetes diagnosis have not. She emphasizes the time, effort, and care she has put into her diabetes management, which has helped her remain free of diabetes-related complications. Our discussion also touches on how negative self-talk can hinder us from enjoying life. Lorraine has agreed to revisit the themes o
