Mary was born with bi-lateral hip dysplasia.

At in 1990, the age of 39, barely able to climb stairs or stand for any length of time, I qualified for two total hip replacement surgeries. I savored my new life without pain but felt paralyzed by “shadows” that still remained from this life long journey. The overnight physical removal of pain did not remove what remained in my mind and spirit. For years, I  questioned both experts and friends, and spent years searching for an answer.

Then in 2003, she was involved in a car accident. Soft tissue damage returned her to a “hell hole of pain”. I vowed to not only survive, but also thrive in spite of pain. I knew this place to well and had spent too much time here. I could now navigate with resources, in an informed manner.

In 2012, I took a break from my 30-year career as an Artist and HS/College Art Educator to write my story, “Silent Courage”. There was an unexpected healing benefit of this “narrative therapy”.

Currently, Mary facilitates “Mining Your Soul Story” workshops, allowing others to discover the gems within their own life tapestry. To see that even the worst times are capable of leading us in better directions.

She is working on a series of children’s books about adventure loving mobility challenged children who do not feel comprised by their circumstances, only creatively challenged to solve problems and be able to fulfill their dreams.
