Kwanzaa an African American Holiday festival includes aspects of first harvest celebrations of the Zulu and Ashanti people. Dr. Karenga started this celebration in 1966 to bring African Americans together as a community. Kwanazaa begins today, December 26, 2011. The celebration includes candle lighting every night for seven nights in acknowledgement of the Seven Principles, Unity, Self-determination, Responsibility, Economics, Purpose, Creativity and Faith.
