US HOCKEY PLAYERS SUPPORT OUR TROOPS Charles Gili Sr. Chief of Operations for New York City Parks & Recreation in Brooklyn 33.5 yearsInterests: Ice Hockey Coaching, Volunteer with Patriot Guard Riders & Operating our family charity since fall 2007;We began our charity as New York State Hockey Players Support Our Troops and within a year or so, transitioned into US Hockey Players Support Our Troops.I started our program for a few reasons. I wanted to "do something" to support those who were serving our country.I wanted to find a means of honoring my dad, who was a WWII Navy Vet passed away in 1999. I was a responder to the attacks that took place on 911 here in NYC and in general, I was raised in a very patriotic family.We are also a hockey family, so that's the hockey connection to this whole thing. I played until 51 and have coached for 25 + years. My son Charlie Jr.

By day,I am a Social Services Director and 24/7,I am a grandma and the mother of three US Marines;two sons and a daughter actively serving our great nation. When they left home,I took up running; first a 5k, then 10, 12, 13.1 and a duathlon all in 2013, never running more than a 5k before that. On March 23, 2014, I finished the Bataan Memorial Death March; a 26.2 mile ruck march in combat boots with a 20# pack in the Chihuauan desert .to honor my oldest Marine's buddies WIA/KIA during OEF
