LTC (Ret) Laszlo Pasztor, Jr. was born in Budapest, Hungary and escaped after the Hungarian Revolution in 1956 with his family to Pittsburgh, PA where he graduated from high school. Laszlo‘s experiences, as well as his education during college in Massachusetts (major in history) prepared him for military leadership. He founded and led a “Hungarians in Exile” Boy Scout troop in Boston and cofounded and led the Young Americans for Freedom chapter at his college.
After enlisting in the Army, Laszlo was quickly selected to attend Officers’ Candidate School and received his commission in 1975 as an Armor officer. His additional military occupational specialties included Plans Operations and Training, Foreign Area Officer (Europe) and Special Operations. He served overseas in Germany, Romania and Hungary. The last overseas assignment of his 30 years of Active and Reserve service was during Operation Iraqi Freedom as a plans officer for a Civil Affairs brigade.
