My Guest this Thursday, June 7th at 3 p.m. PDT on MetalSmith BenchTalk is artist, teacher, and studio owner Kim Baxter

Bio: A native of North Tonawanda, New York, Kim followed the call to pursue art, and made her way to Cleveland, Ohio. There she attended the Cleveland Institute of Art, and in 1996 received her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Metals. She lives in the Cleveland area with her family, creating artisan jewelry in her studio and teaching Jewelry/ Metals classes at Lakeland Community College. Kim regularly sells her one of a kind jewelry in the Cleveland market, and participates in exhibitions across the United States.

Artist Statement: "Located close to the Ohio shores of Lake Erie, I find inspiration in the natural environment. Nature's influence of line, texture, shape, and pattern is distilled into my artisan jewelry. Trained in traditional metalsmithing techniques, I favor fusing, forging, fabrication and Keum-Boo to produce my one-of-a-kind and limited edition pieces.

For many years, I have been experimenting with fusion of sterling silver in various gauges and diameter. Working in a serendipitous nature, the fusing process leads to intricate and organic patterns. Drawn to variation of the sinuous line, I manipulate the surface and form. Materials in my creations may include sterling silver, fine silver, 14k gold, 24k gold, pearls, and semi precious stones."
