John Gomez, an American, speaks on his child's abduction in Japan. In November 1994, I married a Japanese woman. Shortly thereafter, I moved to Japan in January 1995. Our daughter Kana was born and raised in Tokyo. She is 12 now. Three years ago in April 2008, Kana was abducted by her mom. Since then, I have had extremely limited access and communication with Kana. For the last two years, I have been shuttling back and forth between the US and Japan. For the last year, I have been working on the human rights issue of children in Japan not having access to both parents. This human right is being blatantly violated on a massive scale. The situation is caused by the lack of family laws to protect the rights of children and parents to have access and communication with each other and by international child abductions. Most recently, I have evacuated from Japan because of the triple disaster situation, especially the risk of radiation exposure. Kana remains in Tokyo with her mother. In the program, I will describe the ongoing process that I call Justice for Kana: My Struggle for Children's Rights in Japan.

Barbara Hoffman is  planning a walk across Canada to commence in April 2012 to
raise awareness of the 28 mass grave sites of Canadian Indian residential school children.  Also, to call on the Canadian federal government to task to develop a national, inter-provincial mandate
for repatriation and return of these children's remains.  The walk is open to anyone who would like to participate, whether on a local, regional or even national level. The walk will also be an opportunity to film a documentary, and to visit
each mass grave site within each province in Canada. hoffmanb@unbc.ca.
