Introduction,
I'm Larry, in 1997, my doctor told me, with the strangest look on her face, that I had become a Type-2
diabetic. I had a blood sugar reading of 420. My A1C, an indicator of the percentage of sugar in the blood
over a three -month period was 14 (six is normal, eight is high, 10+ is chronic). I was only 40 years old. I
already knew what this meant for me for lifeA: Once a diabetic always a diabetic.
On the morning of my 49th birthday, October 22, 2006, I had to check myself into the hospital. I was feeling
miserable. I had spent the night on my knees, because lying down was too uncomfortable. At the hospital, I
was told it was good that I had spent the night on my knees; I was suffering from congestive heart failure
and I would not have made it through the night, if I had tried to go to sleep on my back.
