Dr./Author Velma Union proposes in this book to answer the question "How can the church in particular the black church, function in its original power?" She sees and attempts to establish the fact that in its origin and through most of its history, the church has served its people well. Dr Union examined its history and concluded that, as an institution, the black church in America has been a decisive and invincible force in providing the spiritual ethos and social strength for a people victimized by racism and other societal realities.
