When a man loses his job, it's as if his life has fallen apart.  When a man thinks, "I can't provide," he sometimes skips town.  Some men can't handle that kind of pressure, so they run from responsibility.  A man needs his wife to respect his desire to provide.  When God told Adam to take care of the Garden (Genesis 2:15), He was telling him, in effect, "I put you in the Garden not only to work and cultivate it, but also to protect it and everything in it, including the animals, the plants, and the woman I will create.  You are a protector."
