Micah, who lived in the same period as Isaiah and Hosea, prophesied during the reigns of three kings of Judah: Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah. Micah's name, which means "Who is like God? declared that God is the only true God. Unlike other prophets, Micha did not promise health, wealth, and safety. To support their "ministries," priests and prophets were paid fees. Micah denounced the deplorable economic, religious and social injustices. He attacked the upper class leaders and dishonest magistrates who ignored the Law and oppressed the poor.

We are all held to the same standard of holiness. We are all required to walk humbly before our God, to love justice and mercy. Envy is contrary to those traits. Envy is disliking God's goodness to someone else and dismissing God's goodness to me. Envy is desire plus resentment. Paul said that "we are to rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn. Envy causes you to mourn when others rejoice and rejoice when others mourn.

Character reveals what's in your heart. His children should mirror His character.
