In Hosea 3 the Lord calls Hosea to redeem his wife Gomer from her adultery and love her again. Hosea paid 15 shekels of silver and a quantity of barley for Gomer to redeem her, indicating that she had likely become a slave or temple prostitute. God them promised that, although the people would live for a time in a foreign land without their own king, eventually they would love Him again and return to a king from David's line a reference to the Messiah.

Hosea now passionately called the people to repentance and reconciliation with their Father God, who had loved them from the time He brought them out of Egypt. God would not give up on them in spite of their spiritual adultery.

Thank the Lord, God loves us in spite of ourselves. Because God loves so purely and patiently, there is the necessity to judge when we resist His every attempt to save us and to cleanse us of all unrighteousness. In His love--He is a jealous God and demands faithfulness from His people. Sin has a penalty, and God is a God of justice. The decision to continue in sin is an individual's decision and responsibility(Ezekiel 33:10-19). Because God loves us so much, He will compel us, constrain us, rebuke us, and chastise us, but He will not force us to obey. His love will constantly seek after us, but it's up to us to receive it.
