Over and over we see from the Word of God that what the world seems to reject, God uses to show forth his Glory. This is played out in the life of Jephthah, the Old testament Judge of Israel.  Judges 11 tells us that Jephthah was the son of a prostitute, and that caused him to be disinherited and thrown out of his father’s house by his half-brothers because of who his mother was. Even the elders of his own people rejected him and hated him. 1st Corinth 1:26-29, says:

26 For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called:

27 But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty;

28 And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are:

29 That no flesh should glory in his presence.

Jephthah was considered a base thing of the world, and he was despised, and thought of as nothing. But those are the ones whom, if they are open to the Lord, God chooses. God gave Jephthah the spirit of a courageous mighty man of valor, and gave him wisdom above those who thought he was nothing.
