A native of Brooklyn, New York, Segun Akande is a burgeoning American film and stage actor. Though a relative newcomer, he has huge appeal across ethnic lines and is considered to be a rising star with huge potential. Segun was recently seen on film in the blockbuster Sex and the City 2 with Sarah Jessica Parker. Since then, he has worked on various independent films with filmmakers such as Steven Soderbergh and Andrew Dosunmu. In addition, he has been featured in national and regional commercial roles for Under Armour, New Jersey Lottery, BET, The American Cancer Society, and as the voice for the new Gatorade campaign all within the last 13 months. Moreover, he is generating immediate buzz for his work in the music video "Roses" by Pete Rock and Smif N Wessun, which is now airing nationally on MTV, BET, VH1, CMT, and other various networks.
In professional theatre, he just completed the first ever production in the round of the Pulitzer-winning drama 'Ruined' to critical acclaim. This production at Arena Stage grossed over one million dollars in box-office returns by the end of its run in June 2011. On his performance, The Washington Post noted he "capably whip the proceedings up into near-violent frenzies."
