What was "The Twilight Zone?"

According to my guest tonight, Arlen Schumer--

"Most people think The Twilight Zone was a science-fiction series—of course, it adapted some of the greatest sci-fi short stories of the 20th Century—but it was more than “just” a science-fiction series. People think it was a horror show—and while it had some of the most horri0fic shock endings ever filmed for TV or film, it was more than just horror. It was more than a “fantasy” series, too because its was grounded in a reality for more real and true for its day—and ours.

"In truth, The Twilight Zone was true television art—because it satisfies the definition of art, in that is was of its time, ahead of its time, and timeless. Look at how its episodes dealing with solitude (“The Lonely”), alienation from reality (“Where is Everybody?”), and society turning on itself (“The Monsters are Due on Maple Street,” “The Shelter”) are perfectly in tune with what we’re dealing with right now -- with the current global panic over the coronavirus’ leading to sudden globally-shared necessities of “self-quarantining” and “social distancing!"
