Our guest this morning is Bill Cotter, proprietor of Manhattan Shoe Repair.

Originally named Manhattan Shoe Hospital, the business was started by Bill’s grandparents, John and Hilda Cotter in 1934 and has been owned and operated continuously by three generations of the Cotter family.

The business originally opened at 100 Center Street, now known as Manhattan Beach Boulevard, and moved to the current location at 1010 Manhattan Avenue in 1940.

Bill began working there in 1967 and has 53 years of experience. Over the last 86 years, they’ve repaired 559,000 pairs of shoes and boots. That’s 125 pairs per week for the last 86 years!

Bill, his family and the entire community is looking forward to celebrating 100 years in business in 2034.

This morning, Bill will tell us how the pandemic has affected his business, but also the rich history of business in Manhattan Beach. He is the "sole" of souls in Downtown MB!
