MBSAFE

Our guests this morning are Rita Crabtree-Kampe, Lucia Ames, Lee Phillips and Debbie Van Ness from MBSAFE (Safe Alternatives for Everyone).

Lee Phillips serves as Chairman of the Board of Directors of MBSAFE and leads the Educational Committee, which strives to educate the community about homelessness. The increase in the homeless inspired her to form MBSAFE. 

Rita Crabtree-Kampe sits on the Board of MBSAFE in addition to being the Secretary and Homeless Connect Chair.  The Homeless Connect Committee will focus on outreach to the homeless in Manhattan Beach, engaging in conversation and assist in contacting services needed. 

A 30+ year resident of Manhattan Beach, Debbie Van Ness is a writer/producer with an extensive 25+ year background as a communications professional. Born and raised in Chicago, she began her career as a broadcast journalist for an ABC affiliate in Peoria. 

Lucia Ames is President of the MBSAFE Board, which was incorporated in February 2019. Lucia hails from Naples, Italy, where she worked as an attorney in a number of local government law positions before being hired by the US Department of Defense to represent American interests in the Italian legal system.  

This morning, we’re going to learn about the mission of MBSAFE and what prompted the formation of this grass roots organization.
